Why I Want
Open Adoption
I have always loved children and have wanted to be a parent for many, many years. For the last year, I have been helping to baby sit my friends toddler son, Isaiah. Caring for an active three year-old is never a dull moment and occasionally can leave me feeling wiped out. But it has also made me realize how much I really and truly want to be a father! Although I have not found the right woman to spend my life with, I know that the decision to become a dad through open adoption is right for me.
Raising kids in an open adoption is already a normal part of my extended family. My sister, Laurie, and her husband Joe have adopted two beautiful girls and I have witnessed firsthand the positive benefits their daughters being raised in open adoptions. The girls have a clear sense of where they came from and know that their birthmothers placed them with my sister and her husband out of love. They also have the ability to contact their birth mothers anytime, just to talk, or to ask questions. For my nieces, being raised in an open adoption is just a natural thing, and another way to have extended family. I am hoping to have an open adoption because I understand the value of children staying connected to their birth family. And I absolutely believe that a child can never have too many people in their life who love them!
